Meet Your Executive Board!

President: Taqui Mahmood

Taqui Mahmood is a senior mechanical engineering major and project management minor. He has served on ASME’s executive board since 2017 with the aim of growing it into one of the largest student sections in the country. He is heavily involved on campus and has served / serves on 4 other boards for organizations including Engineers Without Borders, Pi Sigma Epsilon, Pi Tau Sigma and Model United Nations. He has had internships within the industrial air filtration, automation contracting and construction industries, and plans on pursuing a career in product development and optimization. Furthermore, Taqui loves to explore cities on the East Coast and travel to new destinations whenever he gets the chance.

Vice President: Mary Smith

Mary is a senior mechanical engineering major. She has been on the board of ASME for two years, serving as the treasurer during the 2018-2019 year. In addition to ASME, she is the current president of Pi Tau Sigma, the mechanical engineering honor society, and is also involved in Clark School Ambassadors, Tau Beta Pi, Alpha Omega Epsilon, and is an ENES102 Teaching Fellow. Outside of engineering, she is involved in the University Honors Program as a HONR100 Section Leader, the QUEST Honors Program as a Cohort Mentor, and is a member of Terrapin Tap Troupe.

Secretary: Sarah Hall

Sarah is a sophomore mechanical engineering major and physics minor. This is her first year on ASME’s executive board and she looks forward to continuing to help grow the chapter in the future. Outside of ASME, she keeps herself busy by being involved in various organizations including Engineers Without Borders, Catholic Terps, Ballet Company M, Alpha Omega Epsilon, College Park Scholars Mentoring, and more! Although she has a wide range of interests, her passion is definitely in engineering and physics. After graduation, she hopes to work/do research in either the defense or space industry.

Treasurer: Carolyn Payne

Carolyn is a sophomore mechanical engineering major who is hoping to also minor in sustainability. She is also involved with AΩE, Clark Scholars, Clark Ambassadors, and Honors Ambassadors. Her favorite event that she’s participated in on campus is TerpThon. In the future, she hopes to pursue a career in developing renewable energy systems to make the world a greener place!

Events Planner: Sebastian Fonseka

Sebastian is a Senior, graduating in 2020. He is an avid sports fan. He is currently on three executive boards, after transferring from Howard Community College in the fall of 2018. He hopes to get into the defense industry post graduation. GO TERPS! 

Historian: Elizabeth Carlson

Elizabeth is a Sophomore with interests varying from bio-mechanics to rocket engines! Outside of the classroom she is currently involved on campus with research, Club Swimming, AΩE professional sorority, Engineers Without Borders, and Tau Beta Pi Honors Society. She is looking forward to helping UMD ASME grow over the coming years.

Membership Chair: Kelly Deschaine

Kelly is a sophomore mechanical engineering major with interest in working with systems integration and additive manufacturing in the future. She is involved with Alpha Omega Epsilon, FIRE, and the Mighty Sound of Maryland, and looks forward to helping the chapter grow.
